Kim McFarland, Roberts Elementary School Principal, Named Leon County Schools Principal of the Month

One of the highest performing schools in the country, Roberts Elementary School, wouldn’t be where it is today without the fearless leadership of Principal Kim McFarland who has served as Principal for 14 years. Leon County Schools Superintendent, Rocky Hanna, and Scott & Wallace, surprised Principal McFarland, as the March Principal of the Month.

Shortly after being surprised in the school’s front office with the entourage of Principal of the Month presenters, Principal McFarland shared, “This makes me incredibly happy! I have been waiting for this day and feel so extremely fortunate.”

McFarland leads her pack with nearly 900 students grades PK, K-5 with enthusiasm, passion for education and years of experience under her belt.

“Our community is amazing and even though they haven’t been able to be on campus much this year, the families have been extremely supportive. We have the best students, teachers and support staff,” said Principal McFarland.

Leon County Schools Superintendent said, “You represent exactly what is so great about our district. You have an amazing school here and that’s because of your leadership and the great people you surround yourself with.”

The original Roberts Elementary School was built in 1897 and named after a former all-black schoolhouse and a local farming family. The new school opened in 2001 and is located less than a mile from the original building.

Scott & Wallace is in year three of its partnership with Leon County Schools to recognize the Principal of the Month. With 25 principals honored to date, Leon County Schools Superintendent, Hanna, selects a monthly winner based on numerous criteria, including: leadership, resiliency, morale, school beautification, and more.

Our Leon County Principals spend so much time building others up, the Principal of the Month Award came about as our opportunity at the district level, to build the Principals up and recognize achievements, because there are many,” said Hanna.
