An emotional and elated Principal Michele Keltner was surprised Wednesday, April 7, in her office by Superintendent Rocky Hanna as the April Leon County Schools Principal of the Month. Principal Keltner has served as Principal for 14 years and attributes her success as an educational leader, in large part, to the team surrounding her. “This truly is a team effort here at Desoto Trail. I am blessed and honored to be Principal, but in our school community everyone is working together to make sure our students are successful. This is for all of us here in the Desoto Trail family,” said Principal Keltner.

Keltner serves her school community of nearly 700 students grades PK, K-5 with a warm heart and passion for student success. Spoken like a true leader she graciously thanked her teachers, faculty, staff, parents for their consistent support immediately following the in-office surprise. “We have a little slice of heaven here at Desoto Trail,” said Principal Keltner.

Leon County Schools Superintendent, Rocky Hanna, said, “Your leadership and the great people you surround yourself with is exactly what makes you so successful. We are grateful for how much you’ve given and continue to give to the Desoto Trail community.”

Scott & Wallace is in year three of its partnership with Leon County Schools to recognize the Principal of the Month. With 26 principals honored to date, Leon County Schools Superintendent, Hanna, selects a monthly winner based on numerous criteria, including: leadership, resiliency, morale, school beautification, and more.

Our Leon County Principals spend so much time building others up, the Principal of the Month Award came about as our opportunity at the district level, to build the Principals up and recognize achievements, because there are many,” said Hanna.
